Readings and Workshops
This spring has got off to a flying start with poetry readings at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal and the ArtsMill in Hebden Bridge. I have also been running writing workshops for MMU in Cheshire on Lifewriting and a wonderful new writing group in Warrington. The students at MMU were great, and we had a good debate about age and memory - is it true that we get more interested in memoir the older we get? I would love to hear your comments.
I have also just got my manuscript off for a first full length book to Cinnamon Press and havent managed to write a thing since? Is this a common problem when you get to the end of a big project?

Yes, the post-book lethargy is a very common response. Give yourself a few months to bask in your achievement, then kick start yourself with workshops and exercises to get you writing in a new way. By then everyone will be expecting more in exactly the same style as the book, and you can prove them wrong! Well done, this is a great achievement.
Thanks Jo! I will give myself permission to take some time. I have a retreat to go to in June - with NAWE so hopefully this will help with a new direction.
Sinead Morrissey says she doesn’t write for a year after completeing a book -
Hi Anne,
you do need some time to recharge after the huge effort of producing a book, yes, but I have also found that in the time of preparing the book - maybe the intense focus sparks greater creativity? - I have continued to write new poems and am now considering the preparation of another book. Look forward to seeing your book out at Cinnamon - when’s it due? Mine is out by 19th July. Good luck!

Thanks for your comments - Sarah and Gill - interesting differences in the ways we approach this creative process I think! When can I buy copies of both your books?
Best wishes
Anne
ps mine is not out until 2011 (Spring).
I heard Sinead Morrissey read in Belfast and it was spine tingling x
